Crisis X Pivot: Neighbourhood Series Decoration

Crisis X Pivot: Neighbourhood Series Decoration
This year, we’ve worked with social enterprise Pivot and people who have lived experience of homelessness to design and create an exclusive range of Christmas decorations. The collection celebrates the many shapes and meanings of ‘home’, with symbols of hope inspired by our members’ experiences. Read below to find out more about the story behind each decoration.
Each design tells a story: a place of safety and security; the peace that comes with owning a key; the freedom to light up your home; and the power of community. Connected together, the designs form a Crisis neighbourhood, reminding us that home is more than four walls. It’s the people, the stories, the resilience and the hope that live inside...
There are four designs (available in both brass and stainless steel finish):
Safety - “The padlock represents safety – you can lock yourself in, have a safe space, no-one's going to come for you. Home is peace, home is safety, home is freedom” - Crisis member Rhoda
Key - “A key reminds me of when I had no address, relying on others and waiting outside. Without an address, you can’t always access services. Having my own key gives me confidence. It means you can build your life and move forwards.” - Crisis member Esther
Light - “Light means a lot to me, after living in darkness and hiding. In your own home, you can turn the lights on, and it’s your light – you can see everything. When you regain that freedom again – everything is precious.” - Crisis member Pauline
Community - This decoration was inspired by the themes of community, family and chosen family that came through consistently from Crisis members. It is a reminder that people care, and to reach out.
